THE KOI HARVEST FESTIVAL / AUCTION
AT MATSUO KOI KARM

DATE 11TH SEPTEMBER 2000

11th September, a Harvest Festival was hold at Matsuo KOI farm.
I attended this KOI show as one of the assistant. Nevertheless, a largest Typhoon No.14, came to Japan and we were suffered heavy storm, many customers came to his farm, in Hamamatsu.
This is the "festival" that is hold twice a year. (September and December).
Unfortunately, KOI hobbyist cannot attend this festival, but dealers and wholesalers.

In morning time, visitors enjoyed the "yearling KOI hunting". 4 large display blue ponds were prepared and more than 300pcs selected yearling KOI/pond was displayed. Visitors picked up their favorite KOI and negosiated the best price with Matsuo.

These are GOSANKE that was produced in this Spring season, around May.
Though they were small (10-12cm), you will be able to confirm their color. These yearling KOI were introduced and
sold to Japanese visitors, earlier than you (customer in oversea).
We will start to export these yearling KOI, after this October.

It seems that most of visitors wanted to have Matsuo KOHAKU, because of the KOKUGYO prize in this year.
All prepared yearling KOI was sold out.

The yearling KOI negotiation stage finished before the 11:30AM. This is the time for lunch.
Matsuo Farm prepared special dishes for every visitors. They enjoyed talking, both official one and private one, with enough dishes and beer.

More than 20 parties came to his farm,
Mr.Matsuo (the middle pf the photo) said that "it might be the KOKUGYO effect,
I met with NAGASHIMA, ITO KOI FARM, NARITA KOI FARM, YOSHIDA, TAIKI, ODAWARA KANSYOGYO, YOUHEI, SUIEN etc etc.

Though the next day, a MOMOTARO would hold an auction, most of major KOI dealers in the middle on Japan came here.

This is the scene of the auction.
Matsuo's 2 years KOI were sold by the auction style.
The brothers and sisters of KOKUGYO KOHAKU was sold by very good price.
In addition, KUMONRYU, DOITSU Metalic KOI, BENIKUMONRYU, KINSYOWA, OCHIBA and GOSANKE, various KOI were made visitors pleased.

Especially, KOKUGYO brothers were sold very well. Visitors picked up their finger, to get their favorite by higher price than other one.

Matsuo 2 years fishes have been 25-40cm. About 200packages of 2years KOI for auction was sold. The highest price of this auction was XXXXX YEN. They will be on sale at each KOI outlets, around 100,000 ~ 300,000 YEN ?
